Long Island Soccer Club is pleased today to announce John Fitzgerald as Boys’ Technical Director.
In his role, Fitzgerald will lead a team of coaches in the development and recruitment of players as part of the club’s expanding boys program.
“I’m happy to surround myself with so many good people and work with the likes of LISC Director of Coaching Gary Book and Girls’ Technical Director Meghan Frey,” Fitzgerald said. “Our goal is to prepare these players for the next level. I’m looking forward to working with our experienced staff to develop these young players to further their careers.”
A long-time National Staff Instructor for United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA), Fitzgerald has an NSCAA Premier Diploma, NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma and owns a USSF “B” coaching license.
Fitzgerald has 28 years of collegiate coaching experience, most recently spending 20 years from 1998-2018 as associate head coach at the United States Merchant Marine Academy while helping guide the team to six NCAA Tournament appearances. He also led the Long Island Lady Rough Riders to the 1997 W-League National Championship.
“We are incredibly excited to have John Fitzgerald join LISC as the Boys’ Technical Director,” LISC Director of Coaching Gary Book said. “He complements perfectly LISC’s growing team of highly accomplished coaches. John possesses an exceptional level of qualifications and experience. His acumen will be a phenomenal and continual resource for coaches, players and parents on and off of the field.”
Fitzgerald also served as the Director of Training and Development Program for the NASL Champion New York Cosmos from 2014-17, where he helped to launch the club’s inclusion as a USSF Development Academy member. He was also an assistant coach with the club’s reserve team, Cosmos B, who were 2015 NPSL National Champions.
