Girls Academy (GA) FAQs
The Girls Academy is the leading youth development platform for the best female soccer players in the United States. The GA is the only national youth soccer platform that represents the collective vision of member clubs and actively engages the voice of the players to take real ownership of the league. The Girls Academy embraces the desire of club members and players to maintain an unrivaled standard of excellence in coaching, competition, and regional and national showcase events throughout the year.
Since its introduction in 2020, the Girls Academy has focused on intentional growth and strategic development. Membership for the 2024-2025 season includes over 110 member clubs with teams in the U13-U19 age groups. The member clubs are split into eleven conferences that make up the national footprint. League play begins in August and culminates with the playoffs and national finals events in June and July. Additionally, qualifying teams compete in a separate, aspirational platform created to add additional quality competition for the most competitive clubs in the GA.
LISC has its U13-U19 and Pre-Academy U12 top teams competing in the Girls Academy. League play begins in the Fall and runs to early June.
The Long Island SC Girls Academy program is a year-round program that includes scheduled breaks around public school calendars, holidays, developmental soccer breaks and end of the season play. LISC U12-U14 teams participate in both fall and spring league play, while the U15-U19 teams participate in a “high school friendly” calendar year beginning its competitions in late fall.
A full yearly schedule is supplied by the club after rosters are formed. Yearly plans serve as guidelines and may be adjusted throughout the year.
The Girls Academy program includes an Academy team with a roster of approximately 18-22 players, depending on age and yearly calendar. The U12 Pre-Academy team includes a larger pool of players that will have the opportunity to play both 9v9 and 11v11 formatted league games.
The club’s U13-U19 Academy II teams consist of a similar roster size and compete in the National Academy League, a platform that mirrors the high standards and competition of the GA platform. Academy II team players have accessibility to train and play with GA teams throughout the year based on development, merit, and program needs. With a strong emphasis on player development, players will move between the two program rosters at the discretion of LISC Directors and coaching staff.
The Girls Academy program requires travel from New Hampshire to New Jersey for league matches in the Northeast Conference. There are typically one to two longer away matches per month during league play (3+ hours).
The Club plans to participate in all Girls Academy events which may require travel outside of the Northeast region. We will also participate in nationally ranked events and invite only showcases.
